IPAC is the new and improved study hall where kids who don't have any, or only have one performance art, will get a chance to work on homework or catch up on anything else they need to do. IPAC stands for I plan, activate and complete (work).
The MVM Student Council is responsible for making the dream of having more time to get work done for the students possible. They did this through discussions with Mr. Doren and teachers. The one thing that we want to say is, "you're welcome 7th and 8th graders and have fun in IPAC." The Student Council has brought out their newest idea: you can buy a Valentine's Gram and send it out to anybody you want. These grams will be sold for only $1 at your grade's lunch, from February 8th to February 11th. The Student Council will be setting up their station at one lunch table, and selling the grams to you. Just tell them your name, and the person you're sending the gram to, and your gram will be delivered by the Student Council on February 12th. Please participate in this fun event! The grams can be sent to friends or groups of friends.
From Greta Luf
Student Council is opting for a dance for 7th and 8th graders and a winter activity festival for grades 5 and 6, instead of the movie night idea. Period F discussions are continuing and the most recent thought is to have period F as a time for students to be able to plan, organize and complete work for their classes. And again this February, the Student Council will offer Valentine's Day grams, featuring festive paper hearts and rubber duckies and necklaces serving as Valentine's Day messages. On the half-day, January 15th, 8th graders performed skits for a team activity. Each advisory homeroom came up with a skit to entertain each other with. New skits will be presented later in January.
From Greta Luf, MVM Student Council President
~ Student Council is working on a movie night for all students, with 2 movies to be shown. ~ The Student Council is also working on an effort to get study hall back for 7th and 8th graders., In the sixth grade we have been learning about the world's injustices. There has been a big controversy on the Miss universe outcome between Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines. Mr.Steve Harvey accidentally announced Miss Colombia as Miss Universe when the award was supposed to be awarded to Miss Philippines. After the sash and crown were awarded to Miss Columbia, Steve Harvey announced his mistake and started the un-crowning of Miss Columbia… and that is where it all began… After this “scarring” event for Miss Columbia, she announced on live television, that what happened to her was a “Grave Injustice”. When Nelson Mandela was put in prison for 27 years for standing up against a government that was a grave injustice. Malala being shot in the head at 15 years old, because she wanted an education was a grave injustice. Martin Luther KIng having his house bombed, being stabbed, being put in prison, and being shot for wanting equal rights for everyone was a grave injustice. Miss Columbia being awarded Miss Universe and then being uncrowned because it was a mistake, and having her opponent win, was not a grave injustice. It was unfortunate and disappointing but NOT a grave injustice. Thanks to Ms. Cormier who has educated us about these important events, and has helped us learn the difference between important and not important events. December 23rd, 2015 was 80's day in 7th grade. The 80's day event at MV has only been around for 2 years now but with all the great feedback of this year I am sure it will continue on for as many years it can. About 1/3 of the students dressed up and it was a heated competition for best costumes. But before the the winners were announced we watched the first Back to the Future movie. Back to the Future was a hit. About half way through the movie we all went into Mr.Koldys's room for a short break. Snacks were provided as well as a good taste of 80's music. After the break we all went back to watch the rest of the movie untll it was time to know who won. The 3 overall winners were Paige Scott, Jordyn Louison, and Abby Wade. Paige went for a punk Madonna look, both Jordyn and Abby wore more of a sporty/dance look or "Flash Dance" as people would say in the 80's. There were many other winners who all took this as a fun experience. For those who didn't dress up there was still lots of enthusiasm for the spirit of it all. The 7th grade took this as a fun and exciting way to welcome the holidays. We will have to see what the 7th grade staff comes up with next to excite and engage the students. Thank you to Mrs. Rueger for the photos.
