In the sixth grade we have been learning about the world's injustices. There has been a big controversy on the Miss universe outcome between Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines. Mr.Steve Harvey accidentally announced Miss Colombia as Miss Universe when the award was supposed to be awarded to Miss Philippines. After the sash and crown were awarded to Miss Columbia, Steve Harvey announced his mistake and started the un-crowning of Miss Columbia… and that is where it all began… After this “scarring” event for Miss Columbia, she announced on live television, that what happened to her was a “Grave Injustice”. When Nelson Mandela was put in prison for 27 years for standing up against a government that was a grave injustice. Malala being shot in the head at 15 years old, because she wanted an education was a grave injustice. Martin Luther KIng having his house bombed, being stabbed, being put in prison, and being shot for wanting equal rights for everyone was a grave injustice. Miss Columbia being awarded Miss Universe and then being uncrowned because it was a mistake, and having her opponent win, was not a grave injustice. It was unfortunate and disappointing but NOT a grave injustice. Thanks to Ms. Cormier who has educated us about these important events, and has helped us learn the difference between important and not important events. Comments are closed.
