This year, when the veterans came into our classrooms, they announced the topic of "What Freedom means to Me" for this years Patriots Pen contest. Grades 6th through 8th participated in these contests and eleven of the top winners advance to the district contest. Those people are Molly K. Flynn, Rosemary I. Snyder, Paige A. Scott, Ruby A. Citrin, Alyssa C. Kend, Abigail M. Fredsall, Elsa D. Letteron, Maya F. VanSant, Jace B. Nacht, Sarah E. Wohl, and James C. Fairbrother. Each winner gets a certain amount of money based on what place they come in; $200 is the most you can win in the competition here at Monument Valley which was awarded to Molly K. Flynn, and the lowest is $25. Each reward is in remembrance of veterans who have died. So next year, unless you're an 8th grader, and are required to write a Patriots Pen essay, make the most of it. You could win some money, and you are honoring veterans who've died. ~Adam B. Comments are closed.
