Day 1 of my life on the streets My family threw me out. I no longer have a warm home to go to. I am on the streets….. It is snowing, cold, and windy and I only have pants and a T-shirt. It is almost Christmas. My parents didn’t have enough food and money for me and my six brothers and sisters. I was the youngest, so that is why I was the one that got thrown out of the family. I am cold and hungry, but I have no home to go to. Day 2 of my life on the streets One of my toes fell off. Well, it feels like it. I don’t have any shoes and I haven’t eaten anything. I beg on the streets but all I get is a glare or an unkind word. I tried to go back to my family but all they did was slam the door in my face. This book and my pencil is all I have to care for, no puppy. No stuffed animal to keep me company. NOTHING. I found some food in a trash can. It was a piece of rotting pizza. I ate it anyway. I threw up. I am on my own. Day 3 of my life on the streets I found a box on the side of the street that said Free Puppies! So I went over to the box and there was only one puppy. He was black with white feet and white all around his nose. I picked him up and he licked my nose. I immediately knew what I was going to call him. Soot. He just reminded me of soot in snow. I don’t know why but he just reminded me of soot. I brought him back to my hiding place and I gave him the rest of the food that I had stolen. We went to sleep. I didn’t dream. Day 4 of my life It is a cold morning. I decide to take a walk with Soot so I steal some rope and make him a leash. We walk and we walk and we walk and walk and walk and walk and walk. We walk till night and then we walk till the sky is filled with stars we walk on and on and on. Then I spot a house that has a tent outside and there is a blanket in the tent and food. I do not know why there was food in the tent but the minute I see that food I rush to the tent and devour all the food in there. (I leave some for Soot of course!) Then I lie down under the blanket and hope that know one comes outside but someone does come outside. It is a girl about my age and she is holding another blanket. She must be the one who put the food out so she could eat. There was no point in trying to run away because she would see me anyway, so I just stayed there. She pulled up the flap of the tent and screamed. Then she said” What are you doing here!” She said it a demanding voice. “I don’t have a family,” I say. “I have been living out on the streets and I don’t have any money and when I saw the tent and that it had a blanket and food i just couldn’t help myself. I’m sorry, I should go.” Then I start to turn around and I go out of the tent and start to walk away. “Wait!” She says.”Wait, let me ask my mommy if you can stay!” I was so shocked but I didn’t disagree, so I followed her into the house. It was beautiful! Well compared to my house it was beautiful. There was a fuzzy carpet covering everything the house was warm. There was a fire roaring. “I wish I could live in your house! It is so warm and nice compared to my old family!” “We’ll see.” was all she said. Then we went into the kitchen and there was her mother. Cooking a beautiful smelling dinner. I held Soot a little tighter when the girl’s mother turned around. But instead of a frown on her face there was a big smile. “Well well who do we have here? Is this another of your friends Caryn?” “No mother,” said Caryn. “This is a boy who I found in my tent. He had eaten all my food and was lying under my blanket writing in a notebook like he is now. He is homeless mama. He doesn’t have a family and he has been living on the street with no money or food.” “MY, my! Well I would like to talk to the boy in private for a few minutes please.” “Okay mama!” Said Caryn “So,” The lady started.”What happened.” “I would rather not talk about that please.” I said as politely as I could. “I need to know honey or I won’t be able to do anything about it!” “FINE!” I say louder than I intended. I told her the whole story about how my family kicked me out and how I had barely eaten anything over the last few days and how my family had kicked me out when I tried to come back. I told her everything, and then I cried and cried and cried and cried. I just could stop. But then she made up her mind that she was going to adopt me Day 2 of my life at the Smith’s house I was now in a home! It was a nice home with a nice woman and her nice daughter and my dog which I had said to mama that if they made me give him up then I would leave the house with him. So they said I could keep him. It was the night before christmas and I was so happy and excited that I had a family to stay with for christmas. I woke up the next morning early but mama and Caryn were already waiting for me. When I got down they both shouted, “MERRY CHRISTMAS!!” Then we opened our presents. I got a book called The False Prince, I got a winter jacket, and school supplies. This was the best Christmas I had ever had! I had a home a warm bed…. A family. That is all I need.
